“Rocky Mountain Theatre for Kids gave me a start. We met when I was a shy high school freshman cast as Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia. It was a part written for a tenor, I’m an alto. It was a part written for a man, I was a young woman. It was the first time a director had seen something in me, and trusted me with lines and songs and story.

That start took me a long way. I started to find my feet, not just on stage but in life. Theatre helped me grow in ways that I desperately needed to, helping me shed the blanket of shyness and insecurity that I had clutched so desperately around me. No one else saw that lion in me, no one else saw the actor.

And while I got chorus after chorus part in high school (or nothing at all) Rocky Mountain Theatre for Kids continued to nurture the actor in me. I played Nala in The Lion King, and Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof. I stage managed and assisted in the office, and I interned, working on the other side of the summer camp experience as a counselor.

Now I am a junior in college at the University of Puget Sound, where I’m majoring in theatre. I have had leads in college in shows that span from David Ives one acts to Chekhov. And I am where I am, in part, because Rocky Mountain Theatre for Kids gave me the chance to play an incredibly off-key Aslan.”
