Rocky Mountain Theatre For Kids and our Actors Academy for The Performing Arts are always on the lookout for talented and committed faculty members to manage our youth theatre programs.

  • A prerequisite for all teaching positions is a Bachelor of Arts and two years of teaching experience with youth in the specialty for which you’re applying.
  • This requirement does not apply to internships or production staff positions (lights, sound, sets, etc.), and occasionally, we will hire precocious, charismatic, and experienced college students.
  • Although all candidates may be considered, and outstanding out of town candidates are given full consideration, preference will be given to local candidates and those considering a permanent move to the Denver/Boulder area.

We are always looking for experienced music directors with a background in musical theatre to help us during the summer season. Ideal candidates should have at least a Bachelor or Arts and two years of experience teaching within the 8-16 age range.

Music directors need to be able to teach vocal parts, provide proper voice technique, and assist students in creating dynamic and interesting musical pieces. These camps are fast-paced and put on full productions within 2-4 weeks.

The ability to work closely with the director and choreographer is crucial, and candidates must be comfortable working with large groups of children. Music directors are expected to accompany the shows, as well as rehearsals, so strong piano skills are required. This is a full-time summer position.

A diverse background in dance technique is helpful. Styles can include, but are not limited to modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, African, folk, and Latin.

These camps are fast-paced and put on full productions within 2-4 weeks, so the ability to work closely with the director and music director is crucial, and candidates must be comfortable working with large groups of children. This is a full-time summer position.

Stage Manager

We are always looking for experienced stage managers with a background in musical theatre to help us during the summer season. Ideal candidates should have at least a Bachelor of Arts and two years of experience teaching within the 8-16 age range.

Experience working on large-scale productions is required, as these camps are fast paced and put on full productions with light, sound, set, costumes, and makeup within 2-4 weeks.

Stage managers must be extremely organized and will be responsible for the following: assist the director when needed, facilitate rehearsals, maintain production book as resource for staff and designers, create weekly newsletters with director, run or block scenes as needed, work closely with director to create rehearsal schedule and scene breakdown from script, track spending and keep production budgets, assist with technical staff, help manage children during camp days, and maintain a productive rehearsal environment.

Extended Arts Teacher (Boulder & Denver)

We are always looking for dynamic and engaging instructors to teach youth theatre workshops during the camp day, typically from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. and/or 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

This is a great fit for a performing arts teacher who has the ability to be on their toes and deliver engaging workshops to students who are not required during a rehearsal period.

Skills in acting, improvisation, puppetry, stage combat, mask work, and more make for exciting extended workshops. This is a part-time position.

As such, this position requires significant design and build experience and costumers will be expected to oversee and manage one or more assistant stitchers.

The ability to work closely with the director and stage manager is crucial and costumers are also expected to work backstage as wardrobe heads during the shows. Candidates must also be comfortable working with large numbers of children. This position is part-time.

Scenic Designer/Builder

Designers are required to run the sound board for their assigned shows, so the ability to troubleshoot sound and mix issues is crucial. Candidates must also be comfortable working with large numbers of children. This position is part-time.

Make-Up/Hair Designer

Candidates must also have theatrical design experience, and for their assigned shows, designers are expected to manage and oversee makeup application for 50-60 kids with the assistance of parent volunteers.

Summer camp shows are fast-paced and put on full productions within 2-4 weeks, and candidates must be comfortable working with large numbers of children. This position is part-time.

Summer Camp Internships

In-Camp Internships

Camp Internships pay
$50/week

We are always looking for energetic, proactive interns to assist with our summer camps and shows. A passion for youth theatre is essential, as well as the enthusiasm to work with young performers, as camp interns are an essential part of our summer camp staff.

Responsibilities will include: assisting the production team as necessary, leading group theatre and team-building games when needed, reviewing learned materials with campers during down time, and assisting in the general management of campers during rehearsals and breaks. These responsibilities can also be adjusted to fit an intern’s specific skill set or interests, if need be.

Camp interns are expected to work backstage during shows, and our summer camp internships pay $50 per week. College credit and references for the internship will be provided upon request.

Costume Internships

We are always looking for energetic, proactive interns to assist with building costumes for the summer season. Previous experience with hand and machine sewing is required. Costume interns will work closely with the costume designer and will be expected to assist primarily in building and altering costume pieces for our summer productions.

Interns may also be asked to assist in taking measurements, conducting costume fittings, and running wardrobe for shows. These responsibilities will be discussed and agreed upon with the costumer once the internship has begun. Hours of work will also be decided at that time.

Costume interns will receive a small stipend after each assigned show. College credit and references for the internship will be provided upon request.

Scenic Construction Internships

Boulder/Denver

We are always looking for energetic, proactive interns to assist with set construction for the summer season. Previous experience with construction and building set pieces is preferred, but not required, as interns will work closely with the scenic designer and will be expected to assist primarily in building and painting sets.

Interns may also be asked to assist in loading/unloading, and/or moving sets between our Boulder and Denver locations, and breaking apart the sets. These responsibilities will be discussed and agreed upon with the scenic designer once the internship has begun. Hours of work will also be decided at that time based on the scenic designer’s schedule.

Scenic construction interns will receive a small stipend after each assigned show. College credit and references for the internship will be provided upon request.
